Marietta City Council approves Data Center near Delk Road and I-75

​At its packed meeting on August 12, 2026, the Marietta City Council approved a revised application for a data center at 1155 Powers Ferry Place, which is near Delk Road and I-75. This property is in the City of Marietta, but is also within the western border of the Powers Ferry Corridor, so we have been following the application closely, including attending City Council meetings.

(Note: This application was in progress before the Council enacted a data center moratorium that is set to end Dec. 31, 2026.) 

This will be an 18 MW data center, occupying about half of the existing Prime Storage warehouse. It is designated as “mission critical” to deliver the low-latency response that hospitals, emergency services, and public safety need. 

The proposal was first in front of the Marietta City Council on July 8th, but it was tabled until August 12th, so  council members could study it further and so the applicant could provide more detailed information on key questions: 
  • Need for low-latency
  • Noise mitigation
  • Water use
  • Electricity use
  • Backup power
  • Health & Safety

The City Council meeting on August 12th was a full house. When the data center came up for review, equal time was allotted to speakers for and against the application. Following the citizen input, Council members conducted a lengthy question and answer session with the applicant's team, which included multiple specialized engineers who provided very detailed information. 

The City Council's approval is based on the many stipulations added to the application. The detailed application documents can be viewed here on pages 16 to 82.

Moratorium on data centers is in effect through december 31, 2026 

The Prime Data Center that was approved on August 12, 2026 had filed for approval before the City of Marietta data center moratorium was put in effect. No more data centers will be considered until December 31st at the earliest.

New Code Amendments Proposed for
​Data Centers

To prepare for any future development of data centers after the moratorium, the Board of Commissioners has proposed extensive data center code amendments. Read the proposed amendments, which are contained in Chapter 134.

The Prime Data Center will be built in the existing Prime Storage Facility 

The data center will be built out as part of the existing Prime Storage facility. Approximately half of the warehouse building will be used, with equipment occupying part of interior and roof. Extensive sound mitigation will be installed, including a specially designed fence.
