Bob Callan Trail extension & Trailhead Complete

Picture
Picture
The Cumberland Community Improvement District and Cobb County announce the completion of  the Bob Callan Trail. With this new extension and trailhead, the popular trail is now four miles long.

The extension starts at Interstate North Parkway and Cumberland Parkway. It runs up Interstate North Parkway to Windy Hill Road. At that point, Interstate North Parkway becomes Bentley Road.

The trailhead is located on the northeast corner of Windy Hill and Bentley. Note: Where the trail crosses Windy Hill Road, it's necessary to use the pedestrian crossing, since the route doesn't involve a tunnel. The trailhead has a workout area, granite chairs, and bike share. Read more about the Bob Callan Trail on the
CCID website.

Neighborhoods Raise
Concerns About Proposed Code Changes

Picture
There was a lot to digest on this issue, which involved proposed amendments to Chapter 134 of the Cobb zoning code, particularly those pertaining to single-family homes. We suggest you see our code amendment page on this subject, where you'll find much more information.

The Space Shop Storage Opens
At The Corner Of Delk And Terrell Mill

Picture
The building is designed to look like attractive townhomes to complement the nearby residential area. Self-storage facilities generate very little traffic, and there will be heavy landscaping with new and existing trees to screen the facility and beautify the frontage. The PFCA has a webpage about the development of this property and how the storage company worked with the community to create a distinctive building. For information on renting storage space, see the The Space Shop website for this location.

PFCA helps end scourge of
illegal truck parking at old kroger site

Picture
Picture
While it took nearly a year, the PFCA prevailed in getting an effective solution by working cooperatively with the City of Marietta and the owner of the property, where the old Kroger was located.

The problem
18-wheelers parking illegally on the property, day and night

There were multiple issues that led up to this situation, but ultimately, when Kroger moved down the street, the once bustling 4.7-acre property became 4.7 acres of empty asphalt. Faster than you can say “Found me a nap trap,” 18-wheelers turned it into an illegal parking lot, all day and all night, and all despite “NO TRUCK PARKING” signs with towing warnings. Area businesses also had increased vagrancy issues. The first barriers put up by the property owner were run over. Getting the trucks towed was like playing whack-a-mole.

The solution
Working with the City of Marietta and the property owner

The PFCA leadership team met with Marietta City Manager Bill Bruton and the head of Marietta’s Code Enforcement Division, Rusty Roth. Thanks to good suggestions, good communications, and good follow through by the property owner in getting stronger barriers, the problem has been solved. A City of Marietta Code Enforcement officer now does a weekly check of the site, and we're keeping an eye on it.

The property remains for sale.

Wheeler 2025 aCT scores
#1 in Cobb and Georgia

Picture

A huge congratulations to Wheeler High School students and teachers! Wheeler's average composite score of 28.5 is #1 in Cobb County and #1 among traditional high schools in Georgia.

The ACT (American College Testing) tests students in four subject areas—English, math, reading and science, and combines those to determine a composite score as well. Read the excellent story in East Cobb News.

Meet District 2 County Commissioner Erick Allen

PFCA hosts August 14th Town Hall, introducing new District 2 commissioner to the community.
"Because the Powers Ferry Corridor is split between Districts 2 and 3, we were eager to help new District 2 Commissioner Erick Allen engage with the community," said PFCA president Tony Waybright.

Speaking to an energetic crowd of approximately 75 attendees, Allen, a software engineer by trade, shared his top priorities and then held a lively question and answer session. Read much more about the Town Hall here.
