There was a lot to digest on this issue, which involved proposed amendments to Chapter 134 of the Cobb zoning code, particularly those pertaining to single-family homes. We suggest you see our code amendment page on this subject, where you'll find much more information.

Wheeler ACT scores
#1 in Cobb County and #2 in Georgia

Kudos to Wheeler High School students and teachers. Wheeler's average composite score was 28.5. Among traditional high schools in Georgia, it was the top score.

The Space Shop Storage Opens
At The Corner Of Delk And Terrell Mill

Picture
The building is designed to look like attractive townhomes to complement the nearby residential area. Self-storage facilities generate very little traffic, and there will be heavy landscaping with new and existing trees to screen the facility and beautify the frontage. The PFCA has a webpage about the development of this property and how the storage company worked with the community to create a distinctive building. For information on renting storage space, see the The Space Shop website for this location.

Bob Callan Trail extension and
Trailhead Complete

Picture
Picture
The Cumberland Community Improvement District and Cobb County announced the completion of the Bob Callan Trail.  With the final extension and trailhead, the trail is four miles long.

The extension starts at Interstate North Parkway and Cumberland Parkway. It runs up Interstate North Parkway to Windy Hill Road. At that point, Interstate North Parkway becomes Bentley Road.

The trailhead is located on the northeast corner of Windy Hill and Bentley. Note: Where the trail crosses Windy Hill Road, it's necessary to use the pedestrian crossing, since the route doesn't involve a tunnel. The trailhead has a workout area, granite chairs, and bike share. Read more about the Bob Callan Trail on the CCID website.

data center proposal for delk at I-75 is Approved

Picture
Picture
At its packed meeting on August 12, 2026, the Marietta City Council approved a revised application for a data center at 1155 Powers Ferry Place, which is near Delk Road and I-75. This property is in the City of Marietta, but is also within the western border of the Powers Ferry Corridor, so we have been following the application closely, including attending City Council meetings.

(Note: This application was in progress before the Council enacted a data center moratorium that is set to end Dec. 31, 2026.)

This will be an 18 MW data center, occupying about half of the existing Prime Storage warehouse. It is designated as “mission critical” to deliver the low-latency response that hospitals, emergency services, and public safety need.

The proposal was first in front of the Marietta City Council on July 8th, but it was tabled until August 12th, so  council members could study it further and so the applicant could provide more detailed information on key questions:
  • Need for low-latency
  • Noise mitigation
  • Water use
  • Electricity use
  • Backup power
  • Health & Safety

The City Council meeting on August 12th was a full house. When the data center came up for review, equal time was allotted to speakers for and against the application. Following the citizen input, Council members conducted a lengthy question and answer session with the applicant's team, which included multiple specialized engineers who provided very detailed information.

The City Council's approval is based on the many stipulations added to the application. The detailed application documents can be viewed here on pages 16 to 82.

Use the link below to watch the meeting video
. The data center section covers almost two hours from 1:06:00 to 3:02:00.
