Bob Callan Trail NewsFinal Segment of Bob Callan Trail UnderwayJanuary 31st saw an enthusiastic crew of dignitaries hoist shovels to launch construction of the final stretch of the Bob Callan Trail. The 0.3-mile segment is scheduled to be finished in early 2025 and will bring the total length of the Bob Callan Trail to 4 miles.
This final stretch begins at the existing trailhead at Interstate North Parkway and Cumberland Parkway. From there, it runs up Interstate North Parkway to Windy Hill Road. At that intersection, there is a street name change, with Interstate North Parkway becoming Bentley Road. The location of the new trailhead will be the northeast corner of Windy Hill Road and Bentley Road. Where the trail crosses Windy Hill Road, it will be necessary to use the pedestrian crossing, since the route does not involve a tunnel. The groundbreaking was hosted by the Cumberland Community Improvement District (CCID), whose Executive Director, Kim Menefee, spoke at the ceremony. She noted the trail will bridge the Cumberland district to the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area, to Marietta, and beyond, adding to over 38 miles of existing trails in the Cumberland district. The ambitious project is the result of impressive cooperation involving Cobb County, the CCID, Select Cobb, Cobb Travel & Tourism, and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). Our area is so fortunate to have the Bob Callan Trail, and the PFCA was honored to be included in the event. See information on accessing and enjoying the trail, which is part of the extensive trail network in the Cumberland district.
