Wheeler act scores at top of cobb again for 2024

For 2024, Wheeler and Walton share the top ACT rank in the county and  they're in the Top 10 among public high schools in Georgia. Congratulations to the students and staff! The ACT (American College Testing) tests students in four subject areas—English, math, reading and science, and combines those to determine a composite score as well. "By adopting a .GOV domain, we are taking an important step to strengthen cybersecurity and enhance public confidence in our online services," said Dr. Jackie McMorris, county manager. "Residents can trust that when they visit our website, they are accessing official government information and services." The old address will remain accessible for a limited time, but residents should update their bookmarks.

Emails sent to @cobbcounty.org addresses will continue to work for a limited time; however, contact information should be transitioned to @cobbcounty.gov as soon as possible.

Fantastic volunteer turnout at
PFCA Adopt-A-Mile Cleanup

44 bags of trash removed from our community!
The PFCA welcomed a group of 40 volunteers, including District 3 Cobb County commissioner JoAnn Birrell, to its Spring 2025 Adopt-a-Mile event on Saturday, March 29th.

"This was the largest turnout ever, essentially doubling the number of participants from any prior event," said Patti Rice, the event’s project leader. “It’s amazing and heartwarming to see these people join forces to improve the community’s environment. Forty-four bags of trash is a significant number."

Area neighborhoods represented included Riverwalk at Wildwood, Riverstone at Wildwood, The Flats at Riverwalk, River’s Call, Woodruff Plantation, Millridge, Sedelia Park, Stratford Grove/Mead/Hyde Park, Valencia Hills and Terrell Mill Estates.

Volunteers enjoyed complimentary refreshments provided by Kroger and a surprise donation of lots of Krispy Kreme donuts!
PFCA conducts the cleanup every spring and fall in partnership with Keep Cobb Beautiful.

ExtraSpace Storage Project Is Underway

The building is designed to look like attractive townhomes to complement the nearby residential area. Self-storage facilities generate very little traffic, and there will be heavy landscaping with new and existing trees to screen the facility and beautify the frontage. Get more information. PFCA helps end scourge of
illegal truck parking at old kroger site

Picture
Picture
While it took nearly a year, the PFCA prevailed in getting an effective solution by working cooperatively with the City of Marietta and the owner of the property, where the old Kroger was located.

The problem
18-wheelers parking illegally on the property, day and night

There were multiple issues that led up to this situation, but ultimately, when Kroger moved down the street, the once bustling 4.7-acre property became 4.7 acres of empty asphalt. Faster than you can say “Found me a nap trap,” 18-wheelers turned it into an illegal parking lot, all day and all night, and all despite “NO TRUCK PARKING” signs with towing warnings. Area businesses also had increased vagrancy issues. The first barriers put up by the property owner were run over. Getting the trucks towed was like playing whack-a-mole.

The solution
Working with the City of Marietta and the property owner

The PFCA leadership team met with Marietta City Manager Bill Bruton and the head of Marietta’s Code Enforcement Division, Rusty Roth. Thanks to good suggestions, good communications, and good follow through by the property owner in getting stronger barriers, the problem has been solved. A City of Marietta Code Enforcement officer now does a weekly check of the site, and we're keeping an eye on it.

As of early March, 2025, the property remains for sale. Read more on our page about the old Kroger site.
